Judges Comments from D & H Carson
It was a pleasure and an honour to be invited to judge our first Modern Game Club show. We were nominated to judge the Black Reds and Wheatens and having kept Black Reds as our main colour for about 12 years, we were looking forward to casting our eye over other fanciers exhibits.
Overall the quality of the birds was excellent, with the Black Red females being the strongest class. There were 7 or 8 birds worthy of being placed, but having made our first walk past the pens the winning pullet stood out clearly with great style and reach each time you looked at it. It went on to be Club reserve Champion. While 5 or 6 of the Black Red males were of good quality, again the winning cockerel stood out.
Congratulations to Marc for showing both winning birds in tip top condition and trained to perfection, a lesson to us all.
The Wheaten classes were smaller in number and again the 1st placed male and female shown by the same exhibitor, stood out.
We both had a very enjoyable judging assignment and hope to be invited again in the future.  D & H Carson

Judges Comments from B Banister
I thoroughly enjoyed judging the Federation Club Show.
The judges deliberated between three birds, a Brown Red male, a Silver Duckwing and a Lemon Blue male.
My best bird was the Lemon Blue cockerel (Marc McCullough), quite outstanding to handle and to see the bird showing itself off by coming to the front of the pen. This bird went forward to win Best Modern.
I was disappointed with the Pile females. Many had split or unfinished wings. A lot of the other females I judged I found to be lacking in quality with the Males as a whole being of a much better standard. Bob Banister

Judges Comments from A Higgs
It was an honour to be asked to judge the Club Show for the second time.

The Duckwing female class was the most challenging, 17 entered with one empty pen. This was a very good class with many good birds not making it into the first four.

My best bird was David Hall’s Birchen Female.
When it came to choosing Best Modern, Marc’s Lemon Blue male put up by Bob Banister showed itself to perfection. The Black Red female put up by Dave & Howard Carson would not settle in hand and was a bit of a “wriggler”.

With 195 entries this was not one our largest club shows, 298 being the best ever in my time but it was a good AGM and it was great to meet everyone again.

Thank you for asking me to judge. A Higgs
